Student dancers will perform exciting new choreography at SSU's Fall Dance Concert 2011, a showcase featuring a wide variety of genres, from hip-hop to ballet.
"There's something for everyone at this performance. No one will be disappointed," says Kristen Daley, theatre arts and dance professor. The show runs from Dec. 1- 4 though the Department of Theater Arts and Dance and features students from a range of different majors, not just theatre or dance.

"We held open auditions and had a significant turnout of SSU students who are not studying dance," said Daley, pointing to pop culture phenomena, such as the television show So You Think You can Dance. "They were great and we will have a special university community represented in this dance concert."

The diversity of contributors is matched by a diversity of themes, popular culture influences and playful exploration of the physics of dance.

The concert, which is the collaborative effort of 12 student choreographers and more than 60 dancers, promises inventive, bold and expressive movement and dances--combined with adventurous choreographic choices.

"Get ready. You will see dances inspired by the pure joy created from moving," says Daley.

The Fall Dance Concert 2011 will be in the Evert B. Person Theatre at SSU. The Dec. 2 performance will be followed by a post-show discussion. Tickets are available by phone at 707.664.2353 or online at http://www.sonoma.edu/tix or at the door, one hour prior to curtain. Entrance is free for SSU students.
