Ryan Harvey ‘20, Assistant VFX Editor, will talk about “How to launch your career in the film industry” from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 29 as part of the new Industry Insights webinar series. Harvey, a communications major with a film studies minor, has worked in post-production on Marvel Studio movies, including “The Marvels” and “Deadpool and Wolverine.”
The Industry Insights series launched this October as a collaboration between the SSU Alumni Association and the Career Center.
"Our goal is to have a meaningful space for our alumni and students to learn about different careers and opportunities and for our alumni to share how their time at Sonoma State has shaped their professional journey," said Tiffany O'Neil, Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations and University Engagement.
"The series provides an easy way for students to learn about career options and cool industries. This program allows students to explore careers they might not have thought about, and other possibilities," said Becky Sandoval Young, Career Center Coordinator.
Tyler Osburg-Head, a 2012 graduate who majored in business administration with a concentration in wine business strategy, was the first alumnus to participate in the program.
Currently working with Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery, Osburg-Head manages the company's hospitality and brand engagement.
"Having the opportunity to connect with current SSU students and share my story was very rewarding," he said.
Reflecting on his time as a Seawolf, Osburg-Head said he loved being a student at SSU, "and life after college is better than you think, regardless of the stress and overall pressure."
"It's important to remember that every student's journey and transition through graduation and life after college is different,” he said. “There is no template or steps that are the same for everyone. You just need to realize that the first job you get after graduation does not need to be your forever career. You can change your mind and determine what works for you if it’s not the right fit."
Whether Sonoma State alums are on campus or on the other side of the world, the Alumni Association is committed to supporting the learning process and building a community of support, O’Neil said.
