BASEBALL
Sonoma State University head baseball coach John Goelz reached a career milestone that only 15 other NCAA Division ll head coaches have achieved, earning his 1,000th career victory in a 7-0 win over San Francisco State, Goelz's alma mater, in game one of a doubleheader Saturday at Seawolf Diamond. The Seawolves (22-22, 16-19 CCAA) dropped the second game of the twin bill by a narrow score of 4-3, moving the Gators' record to 17-25 overall and 16-19 in conference play.
MEN'S GOLF
The Sonoma State men's golf team was selected to participate in the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship. The Seawolves will compete in the South Central/West Regional, May 4-6, at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo. It is the ninth regional appearance in the last 10 years for the Seawolves, who will enter the tournament ranked fifth in the West.
WOMEN'S WATER POLO
The Sonoma State women's water polo team came up short in the 2015 WWPA Women's Championship 3rd Place Game, falling 6-5 to Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. With the loss, the Seawolves see their season come to an end at 9-20 overall. Alexa May and Andrea Mallul were named to the WWPA All-Tournament Team for their efforts in the pool this weekend as the Seawolves went 1-2, with a 14-5 win over Gannon on Friday before a pair of nail-biting one-goal losses to Cal State East Bay on Saturday and Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.
SOFTBALL
The Sonoma State softball team will head into this weekend's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championship on a winning note, sweeping host Cal State Stanislaus 9-0 (in five innings) and 9-3 (in nine innings) on Saturday, the final day of the regular season, in Turlock. The Seawolves (38-17, 24-11 CCAA) have clinched the No. 3 seed in the CCAA tournament, which begins on Friday at Arnaiz Stadium in Stockton.
