Seawolf sports update, Dec.30-Jan.10: Men's basketball is the No. 1 Division II defense in the nation and continue their three game win streak and women's basketball breezes by Stanislaus State.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Nation's No. 1 Defense Stifles Stanislaus State 61-47

Jordan Fleck scored a game-high 14 points off the bench to help propel the Sonoma State men's basketball team to a dominating 61-47 road victory on Jan. 6. over the Warriors of Stanislaus State. Free throws and stellar defense were the difference in the game as the Seawolves improve to 9-4 on the year and 5-2 in conference play.

Seawolves Shatter Records in Victory On New Year's Eve

Nathan Molony-Benjamin recorded three blocks to break the program record for most blocks in a career as the Sonoma State men's basketball team, which boasts the top scoring defense in all of Division II, held visiting Cal State East Bay to just 38 points, also a new program record, in the Dec. 31 59-38 victory at Haehl Pavilion on the campus of Santa Rosa Junior College.

Seawolves Outlast Broncos in Wild Overtime Affair, 70-68

Fouled on a three-point attempt at the buzzer in a tie game in overtime, Mason Phillips sank two of his three free throws to lift the Sonoma State men's basketball team to a wild 70-68 victory over visiting Cal Poly Pomona on Dec. 30 at Haehl Pavilion on the campus of Santa Rosa Junior College.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Sonoma State Breezes by Stanislaus State 71-55

Sonoma State handedly defeated Stanislaus State 71-55 capitalizing on their turnovers on Jan. 6. With the win Sonoma improves their record 4-3 in the CCAA and 8-5 overall.

Sonoma State Loses Close Game to Academy of Art in Non-Conference Match

Sonoma State was just two points shy of a victory Tuesday night against Academy of Art who bested them 78-76 in the Icebox of Dominican University on Jan. 3.

Hot Shooting by Cal State East Bay Proves Too Much For Sonoma

Sonoma State never saw a lead on Saturday night against Cal State East Bay and bowed to the Pioneers 63-46 on Dec. 31.

Gill's Career Night Fuels Seawolves To Win Over Pomona

The Seawolves toppled the Broncos 74-62 on Dec. 30 thanks in part to hot shooting from Junior Carly Gill. This win over Cal Poly Pomona is the first in 14 match-ups between the teams and snaps a Sonoma losing streak established in 2009.
